A BLAST FROM THE PAST
July 30, 2008 -
Hello fans,
Ah, the glory days of comic books. When comics overflowed the newsstands, kids traded them as commodities and each copy was only a dime. If that wasn't enough, each comic was also crammed with multiple stories and splendid art. A plethora of superheroes, science fiction, and funny animals surely filled kid’s imagination. What I would do to travel back in time to visit those newsstands and witness comics in their heyday.
So with a blast from the past the Pop Culture Pin Trading Company is bringing back those classic images with the introduction of GOLDENAGE TRADING PINS. These trading pins feature classic images from the golden period in comic books.
To get the ball rolling we went hunting for a classic image. The cover to Startling Comics #49 was at the top of everyone’s list. The robot/bondage cover by Alex Schomburg is beyond doubt an ageless classic. The cover is instantly recognizable and revered.
We then wanted a superhero frOm the past and 2 came to mind: Black Terror and Fighting Yank. For the Black Terror trading pin we found inspiration in the cover art on Exciting Comics #45. Looking at that cover we were rather confident that any kid seeing it on the newsstand would have been mesmerized by the imagery. The cover drawn by Alex Schomburg has the Black Terror locked in combat with the evil robot. This cover is too cool.
For the Fighting Yank trading pin we wanted to showcase American patriotism during the height of World War II. Looking at the cover to Fighting Yank #7 we knew right away we found the perfect example. The cover shows Fighting Yank holding a bomb rightly named “Hitler Special”. Wow, talk about a classic example of American patriotism from 1944.
Each pin features pin on pin, sequentially numbered and contains the Pop Culture Pin Trading logo stamped on back. The edition runs of Startling Comics #49 and Black Terror are set at 500. Fighting Yank has an edition run of 300. Each pin is priced at $12 and we welcome wholesale request. Order now!
